The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75) arrived in Varna, Bulgaria, for a scheduled port visit, Jan. 8 2015
Donald Cook’s visit to Bulgaria reaffirms to NATO allies that the U.S. Navy shares a commitment to strengthening ties, while working toward mutual goals of promoting peace and stability in the Black Sea region.
“This is the second time Donald Cook has been in the Black Sea in the last eight months, and we have yet to visit Bulgaria. The crew is eager and excited to experience a new port with such a rich and proud history”, Cmdr. Charles Hampton, commanding officer, USS Donald Cook.
Since arriving in the Black Sea Dec. 26, Donald Cook participated in an underway engagement with Turkish naval Forces Dec. 28 and made a scheduled port visit with arrived in Constanta, Romania, Dec. 30.
