On 30.09.2015 the Council of Ministers decided to introduce a proposal to the National Assembly to adopt the „Programme for the Development of the Defence Capabilities of the Bulgarian Armed Forces 2020”.
The Programme sets out the core parameters and guidelines for the development of the Armed Forces until 2020. The investment priorities in the field of defence, defined by the programme, are the following:
• Establishing Battalion Battle Groups within the Mechanized Brigades
• Acquisition of a new type combat aircraft
• Acquisition of 3D radars
• Development of automated command and control system for the Air Forces
• Partial modernization of Class E-71 frigates
• Acquisition of multifunctional modular offshore vessel
• Establishment of an Intelligence Fusion Center Operations
• Cryptographic protection of the communication and information networks for classified information
• Project “Automated information system of the Ministry of Defence and the Bulgarian Armed Forces, the operational and tactical headquarters”
